Conflicts (Snapchat Photo Quality :/)

For my last quarter of college, I decided to take a class called "Data and Algorithm in Art" for fun. One of my assignments was to create a project that showcased randomness and the passage of time.

Three of my peers and I decided to create a 4 x 4 grid, where each cell represented either a high or low of our day. So everyday, for 4 days, we'd randomly decide on a time to work on art. If the time ended in an odd digit, we'd draw a low of our day; if the time ended in an even digit, we'd draw a high of our day. This piece is one of my "lows" (sadly don't remember the specific time).

It represents a conversation I had with one of my best friends about friendship. The speech bubbles in the photo are actual excerpts from our conversation.

Sorry for the bad picture quality (the actual art piece is in storage right now, and all I have is a snapchat photo of it -- that's what you're seeing above) -- just wanted to post this image as a reminder to myself to post a better version + be more active on DA and Tumblr.

~ 4 hours, pencil and markers on poster paper

I drew this piece a while back for my friend's birthday. Last summer, my friend requested that I reproduce :iconwlop:'s (by the way, please check out this artist's work if you haven't! He is one of my favorite artists, and I always find myself learning a bit about lighting, dynamic poses, and painting technique from his pieces.) "Saber":…

Was gonna do an oil paint version of the piece but was too lazy to go out and buy some oil paints. Guess the media? (Hint: answer is below).

I absolutely love the right arm (cannon? Sorry Fate Zero fans, I don't watch this show.) turned out. I didn't think I'd be able to produce reflective surfaces well, given the media I was working with and also since I don't have much experience drawing such surfaces.

I'm definitely not as happy with the right arm -- it looks a lot flatter and less realistic.

I think the overall piece does look a little flat due to the media's saturated color. Obtaining dimension and depth is something I want to work on extensively going forward, especially since I want to achieve a semi-realistic art style.

~15 hours, markers, watercolor pencils, blue ballpoint pen, and liquid white out on Elmer's 20" x 30" foam board
(Edited with Pixlr Express)

A quick work in progress of Asami Sato from The Legend of Korra! I've been challenging myself by not using references, and man, it's hard. I like the shading so far, though!

I just found out that I’m tabling at UChi-Con (if you’re near Chicago and into anime, then you should check out this convention) this upcoming February, so I have to get some new pieces out before then. I don’t think I’m qualified to table, but my friend insisted that I should…I guess we’ll see how it goes!

Hey guys, I know I’ve been inactive for a while. I don’t think I’ll be too active for the next few months, but I’ll try to post some art whenever I can!

Anyway, here’s our favorite shorty! I changed the uniform a bit to look more royal. I didn’t look at any references, so I’m sure I messed up the anatomy and clothing a bit, but like I always say, practice is practice.

Media: Mechanical pencil on sketchbook paper, edited with Pixlr Express and Photoshop CC 2015

Time: ~3.5 hours

Hey!  I know I've been very inactive this past year, and I want to try and make it up this summer.  I'm taking summer classes, so I don't have too much time on my hands during the weekdays (or really the weekends, for that matter).  The class I'm currently taking has a pretty heavy workload, and I won't be finished with it until next week (that means studying for quizzes and the final, eek). I'll have next weekend off, though, and I'm hoping I can spit out some quick pieces.  I'm planning on drawing/sketching that entire weekend, and I'm going to head to the art store downtown and pick up some art supplies.  After that weekend, I start another class, but hopefully by that time I'll manage my time a bit better. If not, I'll be home for a couple of weeks before school starts, and I'll definitely be working on the majority of my unfinished pieces.

Here's what I hope to work on:

-Architecture and landscape
-Quick, semi-realistic doodles (some might feature fanart -- I haven't decided yet)
-Anatomy (the two main things I want to work on this summer are architecture and anatomy because they're still the hardest things for me to draw)
-Realistic portraits
-Dragons (of course)
-Pattern-making/vector images (Adobe Illustrator is AMAZING. I'm still a beginner, but I've been watching some tutorials in my free time, and honestly, it's is so much more versatile than Photoshop Elements.  I don't have Photoshop CS6, so I can't compare Illustrator CS6 to it.  But damn, Illustrator has a TON of nifty features.)

I'm not going to take any requests this summer (because I always fail to properly gauge when I'll finish requests), but feel free to suggest a topic (preferably one that overlaps with the topics listed above)!  I might end up including the suggestion in some of my sketches!

Good days, bad days -- we must persist in the face of challenge if we ever hope to improve.
"We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit." -- E.E. Cummings
